Conclusion: Although in this study we analysed a very small number of MDS patients, and
larger studies are necessary to confirm these preliminary data, our results show for the first
time that the expression of PI-PLCbeta1/Cyclin D3/PKCalpha pathway is directly associated
with iron-induced oxidative stress and ROS production in both MDS and hematopoietic cells.
Moreover, PI-PLCbeta1 quantitation during DFX could allow the early identification of patients
likely to be refractory to the therapy.
